UK Religious Worker Visa Application
About the UK Religious Worker Visa
The UK Religious Worker Visa, part of the Temporary Work route, is suitable for individuals who wish to undertake religious duties in a non-pastoral capacity, such as members of a religious order. This visa replaced the earlier T5 (Temporary Worker) Religious Worker visa category. If you are looking to engage in faith-based activities in the UK for a short duration, this visa could be the ideal choice for you.
Sponsorship Requirement
Before you can apply, you must be sponsored by a UK-based religious organisation licensed by the Home Office. They will provide you with a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS), which is a reference number containing key details about your job and role. Your work in the UK must be closely aligned with your sponsor's religious functions or organisational activities.
Visa Processing Time and Validity
Applicants from outside the UK may apply up to three months before the intended start date of employment, as mentioned on the Certificate of Sponsorship. Usually, the decision is made within 3 weeks. The visa is typically granted for up to 24 months, or for the duration mentioned in the CoS plus 14 to 28 days, whichever is shorter. Entry into the UK is permitted up to 14 days before the job begins.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, the applicant must be 18 years or older and possess a valid CoS. You should also demonstrate sufficient financial means – generally at least £1,270 – to support yourself unless your sponsor confirms they will cover your expenses. Additionally, you should not have held a Religious Worker or Charity Worker visa within the past year unless you have remained outside the UK throughout that period.
Family Members and Dependants
You can be accompanied by your spouse or partner and children, provided they meet the dependant criteria. They will need to show proof of relationship and sufficient funds – £285 for a partner, £315 for one child, and £200 for each additional child. If they are applying separately, they must quote your Global Web Form (GWF) or Unique Application Number (UAN).
Extension and Additional Information
You may apply to extend your visa if you continue working in the same role or wish to switch employers, subject to a fresh sponsorship. The maximum stay allowed under this route is 24 months. Your dependants must also apply for an extension, as their visas will not renew automatically. All applicants must provide biometric details and required documents, which may include TB test results and certified translations if applicable.
The Home Office will carefully scrutinise an application for a long term or temporary Skilled Worker visa. If it does not consider that the visa application is a genuine or if it considers that any of the other requirements have not been met, the application will fall for refusal. It is therefore essential that the application is prepared thoroughly and carefully.
We are experienced in preparing work visa applications to ensure a successful outcome and will provide expert guidance and assistance to you throughout the process.
